Friend or Enemy?

6 07 2010

Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. (Proverbs 27:6 NKJV)

Would God say we’ve proven to be a “friend” or an “enemy” to the people He has given for our lives? The answer to this can be a little trickier than one might think.

Friendships are tremendously vital to our well-being; friends comfort us, inspire us, make us laugh, and sometimes, when needed, even make us forget. Life truly can be a whole lot better when we are in the company of good friends.

But when we see that a friend is “blind” to sin and is living in disobedience to God’s ways, do we tell them the truth that sets them free or choose to keep silent, instead, because we’re fearful of wounding them and losing their friendship? How we respond to this is very important because if we don’t tell them the truth, according to God’s Word we’re actually guilty of misdirecting “a blind person on the way”. And that, my friend, is no friend at all.

“Cursed be he who misdirects a blind person on the way.” (Deut. 27:18 NKJV)
